What's the story?
Most companies use heavy-metal (silver) ions to kill the bacteria that causes odor in their clothing:
- Heavy metals are a major groundwater pollutant
- Heavy metals are not safe for human ingestion
- Bacteria can build resistance to silver
These risks were unacceptable to Patagonia, so we developed a safe, nonpolluting alternative:
